A Piece of Rockies History

Chalet Haesler Sr. is named after Christian Haesler Sr., one of the very first Swiss mountain guides brought to Canada by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1899.

Originally from Interlaken, Switzerland, Haesler Sr. helped establish European-style mountain guiding throughout the Canadian Rockies and played a major role in shaping early mountaineering culture in Western Canada. His expertise, leadership, and pioneering spirit contributed to numerous first ascents and the development of safer alpine travel throughout the region.

Today, his former chalet stands as part of that enduring legacy while continuing to welcome a new generation of mountain travellers.
