What are the best places to stay in Golden, BC?

Edelweiss Village + Resort offers six restored 1911 Swiss Guide chalets set across 53 acres overlooking Golden, BC and the Columbia Valley. It sits just minutes from downtown Golden and Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, providing a private alternative to crowded hotels.

What amenities are included in each historic chalet rental?

Each restored chalet features fully equipped kitchens with a stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, and coffee maker, along with quality cookware, dishes, and glassware. Chalets include high-speed Wi-Fi, smart heating and cooling, private decks or balconies with mountain views and BBQs, and wood-burning fireplaces stocked with complimentary firewood. Please note that chalets do not have traditional ovens, as cooking is designed around stovetops, BBQs, or local Golden dining.

How many guests can sleep at Edelweiss Village?

Across all six chalets, including the Edward & Walter Feuz Chalet, Ernest Feuz Chalet, Chalet Heimann, Chalet Aemmer, Chalet Haesler Jr., and Chalet Haesler Sr., the entire village accommodates up to 33 overnight guests.

Are there shared amenities at Edelweiss Village?

Guests at the resort have access to an authentic wood-burning outdoor sauna with provided firewood, a central community fire pit with surrounding bench seating, a wide village green space for lawn games and picnics, and walking trails across 53 private acres of mountain land.

Are cleaning services included with my stay?

Yes. Professional cleaning services are provided before and after every stay to ensure your historic chalet is immaculate upon arrival and fully refreshed after departure.

Is coffee and tea provided in the chalets?

Yes. Complimentary coffee and tea are provided in every chalet, along with basic kitchen essentials to help you settle in comfortably upon arrival.

Is there a coffee maker in the chalet kitchen?

Yes. Every chalet includes a drip coffee maker along with coffee, tea, mugs, and tumblers so you can enjoy your morning drink on the deck or around the fire pit.

What kitchen appliances are included in each chalet?

Each chalet kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and coffee maker, along with full sets of cookware, dishes, glassware, and cutlery. Please note that the chalets do not contain traditional ovens, so meal planning should focus on stovetop preparation, the private outdoor BBQ, or dining out locally.

What time is check-in and check-out at Edelweiss Village?

Check-in time is at 4:00 PM and check-out time is at 11:00 AM. A detailed welcome package with check-in instructions, parking details, Wi-Fi passwords, and a property map is emailed to guests prior to arrival.

How close is Edelweiss Village to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and National Parks?

Edelweiss Village sits five minutes from downtown Golden and 15 to 20 minutes from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Yoho National Park and Glacier National Park are approximately 30 minutes away, while Banff, Kootenay, and Mount Revelstoke National Parks are reachable in one to one and a half hours.

How long is the drive to Golden, BC from major airports?

The drive from Calgary International Airport is approximately three hours west via the Trans-Canada Highway. From Banff, the drive is about 1.5 hours, from Lake Louise it is one hour, from Revelstoke it is two hours, and from Kelowna International Airport the drive takes approximately 4.5 hours.

What are the road conditions driving up to Edelweiss Village?

Ottoson Road is a well-maintained gravel road with a mild uphill incline that is easily accessible by standard cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, and camper vans. Appropriate winter tires are recommended for winter travel in the Canadian Rockies.

Is parking available at the chalets?

Each chalet has dedicated parking right outside or beside the home for at least two vehicles, with additional overflow parking available throughout the resort property.

Can I rent the entire village for a private event or wedding buyout?

Groups can reserve all six historic chalets for full village buyouts, providing exclusive access to the entire 53-acre property and accommodating up to 33 overnight guests for wedding weekends, family reunions, corporate retreats, and wellness workshops.

How many guests can attend an outdoor wedding at Edelweiss Village?

While on-site chalet accommodations host up to 33 overnight guests, the grounds can host outdoor wedding ceremonies and tented receptions for over 200 attendees, with shuttle services connecting off-site guests to hotels in downtown Golden.

Is camping permitted on the property?

What is the history of Edelweiss Village in Golden, BC?

Constructed between 1910 and 1912 by the Canadian Pacific Railway, Edelweiss Village was built as a home base for certified Swiss mountain guides, including the Feuz, Haesler, Aemmer, and Bohren families, who shaped Canadian Rockies mountaineering culture. Today, the site is stewarded by Montayne in collaboration with the Swiss Edelweiss Village Foundation.
