Getting Here

Your Journey Begins Here

One of the things our guests love most about Edelweiss Village + Resort is that it feels like a true mountain escape without being difficult to reach.

Nestled on a quiet hillside overlooking Golden, British Columbia, our historic Swiss village is surrounded by towering forests and mountain views, yet sits just minutes from downtown. Within moments of turning off the Trans-Canada Highway, you'll arrive at a place where history, nature, and adventure come together.

Built in 1912 as homes for the legendary Swiss Mountain Guides, Edelweiss Village has welcomed adventurers to the Canadian Rockies for more than a century. Today, those same historic chalets have been thoughtfully restored with modern comforts while preserving the character and heritage that make this place unlike anywhere else.

Whether you're joining us for a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or an extended mountain adventure, getting here is simple, and we're here to help every step of the way.

Driving to Edelweiss

Most guests arrive by car, and the drive is one of the highlights of the trip.

Approximate Driving Times

  • Calgary: approximately 3 hours
  • Banff: approximately 1.5 hours
  • Lake Louise: approximately 1 hour
  • Revelstoke: approximately 2 hours
  • Kelowna: approximately 4.5 hours

Once you leave the Trans-Canada Highway, you'll find yourself at the entrance to Edelweiss Village almost immediately. From there, you'll follow Ottoson Road for just a couple of minutes as it gently winds uphill through the trees toward the village.

The final stretch is a well-maintained gravel road with a mild incline. While some guests are initially surprised that the road isn't paved, it's easily accessible and we've welcomed visitors in everything from compact cars to SUVs, pickup trucks, motorcycles, and camper vans. Under normal conditions, reaching the village is straightforward, regardless of what you drive. During the winter months, we simply recommend appropriate winter tires, just as you would anywhere else in the Canadian Rockies.

Flying Here

Travelling from further away? The two most convenient airports are:

Calgary International Airport (YYC)

Calgary is the most popular gateway to the Canadian Rockies and offers the greatest selection of domestic and international flights. From there, you’ll enjoy one of Canada’s most scenic drives west through the mountains before arriving in Golden.

Driving time: approximately 3 hours.

Kelowna International Airport (YLW)

Kelowna is another excellent option, particularly for guests travelling from western Canada or the United States. The drive follows beautiful mountain highways through the heart of British Columbia before reaching Golden.

Driving time: approximately 4.5 hours.

Rental vehicles are available from both airports and are the easiest way to explore the region during your stay.

Arriving at the Village

One of the first things you'll notice is how peaceful it is here.

The village is made up of six beautifully restored Swiss chalets spread throughout the property, each thoughtfully positioned to offer privacy while still creating a welcoming sense of community. Walking paths connect the chalets to shared gathering spaces, while mature trees, mountain views, and more than a century of history surround you.

Before your arrival, you'll receive a detailed welcome package with your check-in instructions, parking information, a village map, and the location of your specific chalet. While every chalet is clearly marked, they also each have their own distinct architecture, colours, and character, making them surprisingly easy to identify as you drive through the village.

Each chalet has convenient parking nearby, and once you've settled in, we encourage you to take a walk around the property. Visit the shared sauna, explore the pathways connecting the village, and take a moment to appreciate the mountain setting that has welcomed visitors here since 1912.

Before You Arrive

Many guests wonder whether they should stop in Golden before checking in. The good news is that there's no need to overthink it.

Because Edelweiss Village is only a few minutes from town, you can easily arrive first, settle into your chalet, and then head back into Golden whenever you're ready. Grocery stores, liquor stores, cafés, restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations, and everything else you might need are all close by.

Whether you prefer to unpack and relax before exploring or stock up on supplies first, either option is easy.

Need a Hand?

Long before GPS existed, visitors relied on the Swiss Mountain Guides who lived here to help them explore the Canadian Rockies. While the way we guide people has changed, the philosophy hasn't.

If you have questions before you arrive, while you're travelling, or during your stay, don't hesitate to reach out. Whether you're wondering about road conditions, the best scenic stops along the drive, where to grab groceries, or how to make the most of your time in Golden, we're always happy to help.

After all, helping people discover this remarkable part of the world has been part of Edelweiss Village's story for more than 100 years.
